How much it costs to conserve biodiversity? People willing to protec nature have no much idea about these costs. Just for bird conservation, the estimate is $75 billion dolars a year. To create a genetically modified organism that can resist pollution, climate change or invasive species may cost about $100 million. Forever. We may, soon, also de-extinct species. I’m teaching and promoting what I call Synthetic conservation biology which is the mix of synthetic biology and conservation biology, as the future of nature conservation.
